Pregnancy and Parenting Education Program

The Birth & Women's Health Center cares about you and your family.   We want to help you plan and prepare for one of life's most wondrous and memorable events.   Birthing and parenting may seem overwhelming at times but we are here to help ease the transition.   Educating yourself and your family about this unique year will give you skills and confidence.   Husbands, partners, or support persons are welcome (one per patient).

Recommended Reading for independant study

Childbirth Choices:   In this 2 hour forum one of our CNMs discusses our philosophy of care, and pregnancy and birth options that are available today.   Included is a tour of our birth center.   This class is Free.  Session is one evening only.

Group Prenatal Care: replaces individual one-on-one prenatal visits with a series of group meetings with women at approximately the same gestation. In addition to the same confidential testing and screening women would receive in individual prenatal care, Group Prenatal Care participants receive education, resource referral, and group support. Using this cutting-edge model, prenatal care is provided to women and their partners in groups of about ten who meet regularly for both professional and peer support throughout pregnancy and early parenthood.

Childbirth Education Series: The emphasis of this 10 hour course is on the labor and birth experience.   You'll develop pain management skills, discuss childbirth options, and be introduced to relaxation techniques.   Partners and/or support persons are encouraged to explore what their roles will be during the labor & birth.   Included is a tour of TMC Labor & Delivery and our Birth Center. This series includes the Breastfeeding Basics class. 5 week series (2 hr. each class).

Childbirth Refresher Class: A one time class for those who have already had a baby or those taking childbirth classes outside our Birth Center.   A time to focus on the end of pregnancy, discuss birthing options, develop pain management techniques, and plan possible changes for a more satisfying birth experience. Last 3o minutes of class focuses on short stay and homecoming information for those delivering at the Birth Center.

Primal Breastfeeding - Explore why babies do what they do, to gain better understanding of newborn behavior. Also learn tips, techniques and myths of breastfeeding. The class is one 2 hour session and happens on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 4-6pm. Call the Birth Center to Register.

Mom & Baby Group: Moms and others gather to share their feelings and experiences of motherhood and obtain current information on newborn care.   Led by a post-partum doula trained in infant care and breastfeeding.  Discussion topics change weekly, guest speakers visit often.  This informal group meets in the Birth Center family room. Bring your baby! No registration required; please drop by. Healthy snack provided. Fathers welcome.

•  Registration is required for all classes (unless noted). Classes fill up quickly, so please register early.
