Sliding Scale Fees and Insurance Options
In an effort to give you the best possible experience and care, we offer a dedicated financial advisor who is available to assess your financial options. We accept Commercial insurance , as well as AHCCCS. We will assist you in understanding your insurance benefits; however, we advise that it is ultimately the patient's responsibility to determine specific benefit coverage under their insurance plan.
If you do not have insurance, or if your plan does not provide you with 100% Maternity coverage, please meet with our OB Coordinator to discuss payment plans. There are several options available through Arizona's state Medicaid program called AHCCCS (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System). We also participate in Baby Arizona, a program which allows pregnant women to begin their care while they are waiting to qualify for AHCCCS.
All program eligibility is based on income and dependent on family size (See guidelines for pregnant woman here) We will do the application WITH you in our office. Please bring documentation with you to show proof of income, residency and citizenship. Our sliding-fee payment option called the El Rio OB Program is designed to assist patients who don't qualify for state insurance.

Financial Agreement : For patients covered by medical insurance you are responsible to pay your co-pay at your first visit. We recommend that you verify your covered benefits and be aware of deductibles and co-insurance which will be billed to you after your delivery. Patients using our sliding fee program will create a payment schedule with the OB Coordinator. If you can make your final payment four weeks prior to your due date, you may be eligible for addition discounts. If you are unable to meet your payment schedule, please talk with the OB Coordinator.
I. Midwifery Care during prenatal visits and delivery includes:
· All prenatal visits and/or Centering group care
· Midwife attendance at vaginal birth
· Sonogram(s) as medically necessary
· Standard Lab tests
· Childbirth Choices Class
· Postpartum midwife visits at TMC or Birth Center
· Six-week follow-up visit with midwife without PAP or contraception
· Newborn exam by an El Rio Provider and baby's 2 week check-up scheduled at an El Rio site
· Routine evaluation dental visit at El Rio Dental - Optional to Patient
Clinical services that cost extra. You will receive a separate bill from the provider of these services (obstetrician, anesthesiologist, hospital, pediatrician):
• NST with an Amniotic Fluid Index
• Additional labs needed on an individual basis
• Prenatal TMC Admission
• Transfer to Tucson Medical Center in labor
• Epidural
• Forceps, Vacuum, or C-section delivery by a physician
• MD care beyond consultation
• RhoGAM injection
** If you transfer to TMC during labor and require physician assistance, BWHC will give you a partial refund of your prepaid facility payment. You will be billed directly by TMC or Obstetrix for physician and hospital services.
Included for delivery at the BIRTH CENTER
• Labor attendance and birth
• Hydrotherapy (Use of Birth Tub)
• Medications
• Postpartum care
• Newborn care and lab work for blood typing
• Newborn Hearing Screening
• 1-2 Postpartum visits with an RN
