Gynecological Services at the Birth & Women's
When you seek sensitive, confidential, personal and professional gynecological (GYN) care -- like reaching out for support from a best friend- -- you will experience the high quality of care that is offered by the certified nurse-midwives (CNM) at BWHC.
CNMs are registered nurses who have completed advanced studies in women's health care and midwifery.
Our CNMs are skilled health care professionals who provide primary health care to women. This care includes evaluation, assessment, treatment, and referral to a specialist, if required. Our CNMs emphasize health promotion, education, and disease prevention.
Our care includes preconception counseling, care during pregnancy and childbirth, and care of the peri- and post-menopausal woman. With health education as a primary focus, our CNMs help prevent problems and assist women in developing and maintaining good health habits.
Our CNMs are licensed and certified by national examination. They are held to rigorous standards of practice set by the Advanced College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). In addition, they attend continuing education programs offered by hospitals, universities and the ACNM.

Why You Should Choose the Midwives at the Birth & Women's Health Center
Our CNMs offer safe health care services and high quality health care for women. They will take a complete family and personal medical history and give you a thorough and gentle examination. Health concerns, safe sex practices, including HIV/AIDS, can be discussed. Birth control counseling, prescriptions, and follow-up exams are available.
Your CNM may advise vitamins, calcium supplements, or suggest diet, exercise or lifestyle changes. You will be encouraged to ask questions, be given plenty of time for answers, and empowered to take an active role in your health care.
Should you develop a condition that needs more specific investigation and observation, you will be referred to our back-up physicians or another specialist as needed.
Our CNMs' years of experience and continued education enable them to provide a compassionate and holistic approach to all aspects of women's health care.
